CONVENING STRUCTURE & PRODUCTION
In December 2024 Proteus Fund launched an innovative new donor collaborative called The Solidarity Collaborative, whose purpose is to support intersectional solidarity between organizations and communities working towards racial justice. The Solidarity Collaborative supports the design and implementation of cross-movement solidariy projects with dedicated grantmaking and programming support. I worked with the Proteus team to concept and execute three convenings in December 2024, May 2025, and December 2025.
San Juan, Puerto Rico - December 2024
We gathered the inaugural cohort of the Solidarity Collaborative and key donor in San Juan, Puerto Rico to learn about the enduring Puerto Rican sovereignty movement in the face of enduring American colonialism. Highlights of the five-day experience included presentations by La Tejedora, a panel presentation at Piñones Aprende y Emprende in Loiza, and a poetry evening curated by Roque Salas Rivera. Building Movement Project and Joo-Hyun Kang were our facilitation partners.
EJI Legacy Sites - Montgomery, Alabama - May 2025
The second Solidarity Collaborative Convening placed a spotlight on the African American Civil Rights Movement and the enduring legacy of slavery as seen in the modern criminal justice system and mass incarceration. In partnership with the Radical Optimist Collective, we guided cohort participants through both the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Sites Museum and Mothers of Gynecology exhibit.
San Diego, California - December 2025
For the third Solidarity Collaborative Convening, we gathered a new cohort of organization leaders and donors in San Diego to witness the increasing militarization and mass surveillance at the U.S./Mexico border. In partnership with the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, Alliance San Diego, and the American Friends Service Committee, we visited the Otay Mesa Detention Center, PedWest Pedestrian Border Crossing, Whisky 8 open-air detention site, and Chicano Park.
The highlight of the event was a conversation with Kica Matos, President of the National Immigration Law Center.
